# AI-Assisted Clinical Note Drafting

Clinician burnout is a crisis, and documentation is the single largest contributor. Studies show physicians spend two hours on documentation for every one hour of patient care. AI does not eliminate this burden, but it can cut it in half — if you know how to use it correctly.

This lesson teaches you how to use AI to draft clinical notes that are structured, accurate, and ready for your review. We focus on the SOAP format because it is the most widely used, but the techniques apply to any documentation standard your organization follows.

The Documentation Problem

The average primary care physician documents 15 to 25 patient encounters per day. Each note requires:

  • Subjective findings from patient history and chief complaint
  • Objective data from examination and test results
  • Assessment synthesizing findings into clinical impressions
  • Plan detailing next steps, prescriptions, referrals, and follow-up

Typing this from scratch for every encounter is exhausting. Many clinicians resort to copy-forward or templates that produce bloated, inaccurate records. AI offers a better path.
