From Copilot to Cowork: The Agent Shift

Everything you have learned about Copilot so far involves AI that works within a single application. You ask Copilot in Word to draft something. You ask Copilot in Excel to analyze data. You ask Copilot in Teams to summarize a meeting. Each interaction is contained within one app.

Cowork changes this model fundamentally. Announced at Microsoft Build and rolling out progressively through 2025 and into 2026, Cowork is a cross-application AI agent that sits at the operating system level and can work across multiple Microsoft 365 apps simultaneously to complete multi-step tasks.
